Off-season is my favorite time to buy swimsuits since they're often on sale. For the past two years I've tried to find suits with more coverage and wanted to share my experience and what I found here! And read all the way to the end for something I just found out about - let's just say I think I found the perfect bathing suit (for me, anyways) that I need to try: a non-toxic fabric swimsuit from one of my favorite companies!
I'll start with this one shown above! It's one of my favorites. It's actually two pieces, a ruffle top and swim short bottoms. It's comfortable and I like the pattern. The drawbacks are that it looks weird when I have a tank top or t-shirt over it because of the ruffles. Also, I am active in my swimsuits, so things like kayaking, SUP'ing, and swimming/playing water games. This is great for everything...except swimming. The bottom of the top comes up when I push off the side of the pool. It's not like it comes all the way up, but it does come up some and I didn't expect that to happen! My exact one is not available right now, but here are similar ones!
2. The black one above is also actually a two piece, but the briefs come up high. It fits nicely, but the top is lower than I expected or wanted.
3. This yellow one is a one-piece. I like the ruching on the side but is a little too much for what I was looking for.
4. I think I have more bathing suits now than when I was a competitive diver, lol. This top one was added out of necessity because I forgot one of my bags of luggage when I went to Tennessee!!! I had to buy a bunch of other things (that were necessities), too. This one is another full-coverage two piece (like the one with a ruffle top above), but there are no ruffles on the top of this one. Instead it comes with a ruffle skort. I like it and it's comfortable, but just wasn't planning on buying another one, haha! It's from JCPenney.
5. To my surprise, this skort-suit was my absolute favorite modest swimsuit pick! It had great coverage but didn't hinder me from any of the activities I like to do. With it being a one piece, I didn't have to worry about the tank tops (see what I did there?) coming up, either. I would have never thought this would be my favorite style, lol, but here we are! It's from Marshalls.
6. BONUS: Okay, this one (and the next one) are a little on the pricier end, but I just have to share them. I've been eyeing this one from Land's End for a couple years now. The colors, the ruching, and the fact that it can be ordered for larger cup sizes (no wire, either) makes it so comfortable! It is more of a traditional cut bathing suit (unlike numbers 1, 4 and 5 with shorts, a skirt, and skirt overlay).
7. EXTRA BONUS below: Dun, dun, dahhhh--- this is next on my list to order! A 100% cotton swimsuit that will "stretch well, dry fast, and made without synthetic plastic fibers," as quoted from their website. It's "cut in a timeless style and dyed with colors that beautifully match tanned, seed-oil free skin, there’s no more need to wear toxic plastic swimwear while soaking up the sun this summer!" I must say, I agree! And this is such an unexpected place to find it, but so glad I did. Click their 'merch tab' and find the swimsuit listing. It's currently available in three colors: coral, ocean, and white. I think I want to try the blue, aka "ocean." I'll definitely update here once I get a chance to try it, but let me tell you, I've been looking for a natural fabric suit for a long time and really just thought it didn't exist. Thank you for making this, MASA! Oh, and if you want to try out some of their nixtamalized, cooked-in-tallow tortilla chips, use my affiliate code: SATIATEDBLONDE!
