A product that has made its way into my daily routine is one that I was initially hesitant to use: EC3 Mold Solution Spray. Is it safe? Does it smell? Does it really work? Do I have to use it everyday? How do I really use it? What if it messes up the material on my couch, pillows, comforter, etc...? Ya feel me? I'll answer my take on all those questions. If I had someone share this with me, my barrier to trying out the product and then actually using it right when I got it would have been much lower! Keep in mind, I am not making product claims, just sharing my experience and helpful information from the product page. Okay, let's get started...

Is it safe?

It's a ready-to-use botanical spray with straightforward ingredients that include: a proprietary natural botanical blend of citrus seed extracts, distilled water, vegetable glycerin.

Does it smell?

I don't find it has a smell, however it has this quality of freshening the air without smelling, but also taking scents away - similar to my experience with their candles (see #3 on this post). So interesting, right? I will walk around and spritz each room and hallway and it just feels so much fresher and clean afterwards. I especially like to do this before guests come, and I don't have to worry about hypersensitivities since it doesn't have 'fragrance.' One thing I must warn is that obviously, when the spray falls to the floor, especially on tile, it can be slick. So I have to be extra careful in bathrooms and our laundry room.

Does it really work?

The company is super transparent and includes the third-party independent lab-tested report on their website confirming efficacy. On their website, they state it is "highly effective" and that it "treats indoor environments for mold and mycotoxins." I think that's sooo cool! I've mentioned how it takes the smells out and brightens a space from dinginess. However, these products are not a substitution for professional mold remediation. In my opinion, they're perfect for mold vigilance - aka keeping a space free post remediation or a clean space clean that never needed remediation, or as a temporary answer if living in a moldy space. To be clear, the best option for me would be to remove myself from the moldy home first if that was an issue. Gratefully, I use these products in my home to proactively keep it mold-safe. I'll be sharing my pre- and post-mold testing plate results and you'll be able to see the difference it made in my space!

Do I have to use it everyday?

I like to use it everyday, but I don't think it's necessary. It can be used as much or little as needed. The EC3 Mold Screening Test Plates are a great tool for feedback on how much or how little I need to spray, burn candles, and fog. (link to fogging post coming soon, too!)

How do I really use it?

It's super simple. I just walk around my home and spray in the air. When I am in a room with carpet, I spray the carpet down. I spray down all the furniture - couches, pillows, bedding, curtains, etc... When I change my sheets, I spray down my mattress and let it air dry before putting clean sheets back on. Read this deep dive on places I've used the spray. Most recently, I used it on patio furniture pillows (see pic to the right)! I tapped out the dust, sprayed each side down and let it dry in the sun, talk about freshening up a space - if only I did it sooner! One thing that's important to know is the nozzle is super sensitive. Just the slightest twist to get a fine mist otherwise it's a direct stream. When I travel I often have to readjust this, but it's no big deal, just good to know.

What if it messes up the material on my couch, pillows, comforter, etc...?

Their website states, "This product is safe for all materials and designed to treat mold and bacterial contamination on all of your hard and soft surfaces including, floors, walls, furnishings, clothes, shoes, car interiors, and more!" I have used it everywhere, and have only noticed positive things! However, when I first try a new item, I test it in an inconspicuous area just to be sure. Ya feel me? (Not literally, haha)
