Have you ever made magnesium bicarbonate? Once I got a carbonation machine, it was easy, but I have to admit when I first tried it, I was a little hesitant and didn't know what to expect! First, let's back up a bit. I use a product called mMagBicarb (affiliate code: SB10), which stands for Magnesium Bicarbonate. The powder in the bag is NOT magnesium bicarbonate, though. Magnesium bicarbonate is formed by the chemical reaction for magnesium hydroxide with carbon dioxide (what's in the carbonator tanks aka CO2). This powder does not have a fishy or metal taste to me, like other powders can. It's lab tested for purity and sourced from the Dead Sea.

Magnesium bicarbonate occurs naturally in spring water - but the water we're drinking today isn't carrying it like it used to. This article goes in depth on magnesium including why we need it, what a deficiency looks like, other forms of magnesium supplementation, and much more (note, this site is NOT where I get my magnesium bicarbonate from).

Here's a video on how I make it.

No, I don't follow the directions on the bag. I don't make it how most people do...but that's because I've learned how I like it, how to make the bag last longer, and how to not clog my machine! Here's a second video - you might want to read the caption I scroll through at the end for more details.

I don't think they are making the carbonator I have anymore, but here is a similar one. However, this one is on my list to try when mine goes - which I don't think will be soon, I've had it for at least five years now! Also, I have one bottle I use for magnesium making and another for plain sparkling water.

For details on my favorite CO2 tanks, check out this post.

NOTE: my affiliate code has been updated to SB10.

Hopefully this post was helpful sharing all the things I've learned over my many years of making magnesium bicarbonate. Catch me making it (and lots of other things) in my stories!
