My Step-by-Step Guide to Replacing CO2 Cylinders for Sparkling Water at Home

The Satiated Blonde

For the longest time, I had the system down. With three CO2 cylinders, when I was done with two and put in the last full one, I'd head to Bed Bath & Beyond with a couple coupons and exchange my bottles. It was the least expensive option and the hardest part was getting to a BB&B (which really wasn't all that hard, ya know what I mean?). But when they closed down, I didn't know what to do.

If you've gotten this far and you're wondering what I use CO2 cylinders for, let me fill in the gap! I use it to make sparkling water and it's essential for magnesium bicarbonate.

After a little searching, I came across a company called SimpliSoda, and they had a mail-in exchange program. I've seen this in the past but thought it would be too challenging, including getting the package to the post office in time, etc... Well, I was pleasantly surprised with my first (and several now) experience with their service. Here's how I did it:

  1. Download the app - it's a little cheaper to do there than on your desktop, and ends up costing about the same as the BB&B coupon days. Speaking of price, I was in another store the other day, and the cylinders are selling for about $30! Making sparkling water would not be sustainable for me if this easy option wasn't available!

  2. I entered my info, paid and then they sent me a box with two bottles. I think it's usually based on two at a time, which is perfect for me and the flow I had previously created.

  3. They accepted my old BB&B bottles!

  4. Took it to the post office within about two weeks.

I really appreciate that I've never had an additional charge for sending back my bottles - I think they give a month?? Be sure to check their details and don't take my word on it. By the way, I'm not affiliated with them in any way, just wanted to share what I found! Here's how the bottles come packaged:

It was a super simple process and still makes it cost effective for me to make my own bubbles! Do you make carbonated water at home? Catch me making magnesium bicarbonate and sipping on sparkles in my stories!
