in the gym

I'm so grateful to have a little home gym and have tried to maximize our small space the best I can. We have a rebounder and vibe plate for optimizing my lymphatics. Most of the weight lifting workouts I've been turning to lately are kettlebell style. Also, if you've been following my newsletters and stories, I've been gearing up to post the mobility videos my friend shared with me since we both quit yoga (that's a longer story for another time). But anyways, keep reading if you want to know what that is (along with some other workout channels I've tried)!

I'm not big into using resistance bands, but I do like being able to take this one to the park to do pull up practice!

workout time!

I also use free weights and this clickable system that really maximizes space. The bar is really small to me since I'm used to olympic style weights but it's great for space maximization. It doesn't go up as heavy as I thought it did, either (I read the specs before ordering, so I don't know what to say about that, lol!) but it works and I'm so grateful to have it.

weights

Very recently, I got 3 more additions to my workout space:

  1. Box Jump - my dad made this one years ago (what the weight vest is sitting on in the pic below). I'm don't actually use it for box jumps, but do use it for a makeshift bench, step-ups, etc...

  2. Weighted Vest - I got this to add a little more resistance during my weightlifting and body weight sessions as well as walks! I got the thirty pounder and I think it's the perfect weight for me.

  3. Soft Box Jump - I have done box jumps on unforgiving surfaces and let me tell you, it was time for a soft option! No more close calls or shin scrapes for me. This one has three different height options and I mostly use the 18" side - but it also has 16" and 20". When I do happen to use the tallest size, I like it for step-ups against a wall since it has a much smaller base than the other heights. Also, it's worth noting that the number you see on top is not the height being used -- the arrow by the number points to which height is up.

Workout Ideas

Often times I make up my own workout on the spot, but I'm happy to share other videos I've found on YouTube! You'll notice most of them are pretty quick, around 30 minutes and I like to lift 3x/week, but cycle sync my workouts.

Workout With Roxanne: She seems to always have luscious plants in the background.

workout 1

Kaleigh Cohen Strength: If you like someone to chat with you while you're working out, she's real.

workout 2

Juice & Toya: They were actually one of the first online workouts I started doing! They have nice timers counting down on all their workouts and lots of variety.

workout 3

Julia.Reppell: She's my favorite for workouts (I think I've done almost all of them now). They're so different and intense, but I absolutely love it! My friend found Julia's mobility videos and sent them to me since we both stopped doing yoga. I was so grateful because I've been sent a few other things that I've been told weren't yoga and unfortunately, they were. Just adding Christian music to sun salutations doesn't cancel out the yoga-ness. So thankful for Julia's approach on stretching and mobility! Oh, and she has mobility-only videos (think various stretches) and mobility workouts. They are very different - and the mobility workouts are more like body weight workouts!

workout 4

The quick video clip below is kinda cut off, but from a hotel workout - I like to keep it consistent! I was so happy they had free weights and that I'm seeing them more and more in hotels.

Do you have a favorite workout channel or equipment you like for a small space? Be sure to share with me in the comments. Keep up with my workouts in my stories!
